SUMMARY:Theatre Play: "Who I’m Doing This For"
DESCRIPTION:This was Peter’s full length play\, written by him over three years. It won first prize in the 2026 Amethyst Award\, offered annually by Melbourne Writers’ Theatre for a new play of outstanding quality\, originality and integrity. The play was performed at The Stables in North Melbourne over eight shows during March and April. Directed by Steven T. Boltz and produced by Clare Mendes. The cast was Lochie Laffin-Vines\, Emily Farrell and Tony Adams. The work looked at the complex relationship between a father and son and asks: how far will we go to win the love of a parent? Themes of male loneliness\, addiction and trauma were interrogated. Following one of the performances Peter participated in a question and answer session. \n‘Who I’m Doing This For’ was first performed as a reading at Theatreworks. This resulted from its selection in the Page to Stage program\, coordinated by Melbourne Writers’ Theatre in 2023. Over several months Peter was mentored by dramaturg Elizabeth Walley and from there the play developed and evolved. \nRead the review in Theatre Matters here

SUMMARY:Book launch
DESCRIPTION:The Distance Between Loves was launched at the Beaumaris Lifesaving Club. The occasion was well attended and hosted by Isabella Farrar. The venue offered sweeping bay and beach views and as if wanting to be part of the occasion\, the sun shone. Speaking was Howard Firkin\, Editorial Director at In Case of Emergency Press. Also speaking\, and providing the official launch\, was Clare Mendes. Clare is the Company Manager of Melbourne Writers’ Theatre. She has produced their theatrical seasons since 2016\, and in 2025 had the pleasure of producing Peter’s Amethyst Award-winning play Who I’m Doing This For which had its premiere at Meat Market Stables in March 2026. Also a playwright\, Clare’s play Skating in the Clouds was performed at Theatre Works in December 2024 and her fifth and latest play\, Mundo Profundo\, is currently in development. Clare has enjoyed watching Peter’s development as an emerging playwright\, and was delighted to launch his short story collection.   Peter spoke about the book and what brought him to write it\, as well as what obstacles he had. He had many to thank including friends who had supported him and his family who have become used to his absences behind a keyboard.
